little advice

I was just wondering if any of you could give me a little advice on my script. how to maybe make the lead guy have more motivation and why we should care about him. Also just ideas that would maybe make this better. We basically have to write a set up for a full length movie. I feel I ended it at a very tense moment, It's not the end of the movie obviously. The question is should I maybe write more or is ending it like that leave people wanting more? thanks so much in advance

Updates and Other Stuff

Okay...

I've been trying to get in contact with the mod, [info]kithlyara, but she hasn't gotten back to me about getting this thing started again.

I was wondering how many people would be interesting in continuing? Do any adjustments need to be made? Comments? Concerns? Questions? Ask them here.

Also... is everyone aware that ScriptFrenzy has started. (just started. April 1st) http://www.scriptfrenzy.org It's like NaNoWriMo, but with a script and in April.

100 script pages by the end of April. Exciting.

Might be fun for people here to try. There is also a lj comm dedicated exclusivly to scriptfrenzy 09. [info]scriptfrenzy09

New Here

Okay folks, This looked like one of the most updated sites, and it would be good to talk to people with similar interests. And my question is: Do people register their Treatments? How do you discuss your ideas with fear of theft?

Announcement: Sixty Scenes

I think I'm going to take a break this month from the Sixty Scenes idea...mostly because we seem to have a general lack of traffic here.

Perhaps I'll have a good one for April.

Oh Now! C'Mon!

Which cat has got everybody's tongues? We need some more chatter going.

Anybody want to talk about the Oscars? What screenplay do you think should win the trophy this time?

Sixty Scenes Exercize #6

I'm going to present a premise and a few main characters here. Then you as readers will add the scene descriptions as replies.

THE RULES PLEASE READ BEFORE REPLYING! )
If it turns out I need to add more rules I will.

WORKING TITLE: DASHBOARD
GENRE: Science-Fiction/Thriller/Voyeurism
STORY PREMISE: A woman's new car records part of her life in more intimate detail than anyone expects...but it also may turn out to save her life.
MAIN CHARACTERS: KRISTI, a young mother who has just won a new car in a sweepstakes, JAIMIE, her preschool-age daughter. THE CAR is a high-tech top-of-the-line sports sedan, with all the latest features. An advanced computer, the Vehicle Management System (VMS), ties in all the usual automotive electronics with a bank of video cameras that look all around the car, a GPS that perpetually determines the car's position, and a mobile phone system that can be either turned on by the driver with a pushbutton or voice-activated by anybody in the car. The phone's microphones have filters so when the stereo system is playing the music/broadcast is toned down so anything said in the car can be heard clearly. Everything from the time the ignition key is put in the steering console lock till it is pulled out is sensed and recorded by the VMS and placed in a databank chip near the car's fusebox. The instrumentation data (speed, fuel, temperature, tire pressure, and so on) are also duplicated and recorded by the VMS. In short, the VMS witnesses all that happens in or around this car, and can provide this information to those who know how to access it.

Character Discussion - Not!Main Characters

Okay... so we still have Gerald - http://community.livejournal.com/scenebyscene/29127.html

And Charity - http://community.livejournal.com/scenebyscene/29127.html

Both are still totally open to discussion. It's an important part of the process, yo.

So onto not!main charaters. http://www.freewebs.com/scenebyscenecontest/screenplaycharacters.htm says:

Joseph Maddy - Private investigator and a friend to Gerald. Years earlier, Gerald helped Joseph out of his own problems with alcohol. Gerald calls him to help investigate the accident that killed his wife.

Oscar Ramirez - District Attorney that Gerald works with.

Chase - An ex-boyfriend of Charity's. He's her strongest tie to the life of alcohol and drugs that she is trying to leave behind.

Pops - Owner of a local garage near where Charity lives. A fatherly type, he often tries to help the "bad kids". As a result, many of them turn to him for help or use the garage as a hang out.

How does Joseph feel about Gerald asking him to help so early on in the case? Is he doing it as a personal favor to Gerald? Is there money to be exchanged for services? What kind of private investigating does he usually do? What's his fav color? Why did he want to be a PI?

Why did Oscar want to become a lawyer? How did he end up as DA? Winning personality or is he kinda scummy? Does he have a wife? A boyfriend that he has to keep sceret to protect his political career? Kids?

Where did Chase grow up? Rich kid? Poor? Is Charity his only "girlfriend" or does he have a different girl every night? Has he ever been in jail? How did he and Charity meet?

What makes Pops want to help out the "bad kids"? Was he once a "bad kid" himself? Or a sibling of his? Does he have a wife? Children? Did he always want to own a garage? Is it profitable?

Discuss.

Community Dialogue

First, due to my latest laptop issues that resulted in yet another complete reformatting of my laptop's hard drive, I am now temporarily without Microsoft Word.  Does anyone know of a program that's compatible with Word and can open Word documents that isn't Open Office?

Second, anyone have any tips on quick healing for a slightly swollen and sore hand?

Third, after a brief absence, it's time for the Community Dialogue!

When times get tough and life gets stressful, I usually find myself resorting to guilty pleasures in an effort to get me through them while retaining at least the tiniest shred of my sanity.  Considering how stressful life has been lately, I've been using them A LOT.

Dark chocolate, historical fiction, and really trashy "reality" TV tend to be my biggest guilty pleasures.  Dark chocolate and historical fiction aren't terribly bad in and of themselves.  I have no idea why I find myself tuning in to watch shows like "Rock of Love" or "Tool Academy".  I suppose the shows are like a train wreck or a car accident: you don't want to look but you can't look away.  My friends make fun of me for watching them but I just can't help myself.

What are your guilty pleasures?
